2013- 05 SUKAU, KINABATANGAN

A very quick 2 day trip to Sukau Rainforest Lodge on the Kinabatangan with Dylan Baker yeilded one of the best monkey experiences yet!! We had a very good birding guide Hazwan, who shared a couple of his pictures as I was unable to get a picture of the pygmy squirrel and the elephants had just left the region. The mornings always start with lots of fog. The night cruise is amazing as we go fairly fast and they find nocturnal things like crocodiles, cats, and birds, frogs, and other critters---many amazingly small and well hidden.

1388- Proboscis monkeys survive mainly on a diet of leaves, seeds, and unripe fruits but will occasionally consume insects as well. They have complex, chambered stomachs that rely on a host of symbiotic bacteria for digestion.
Amazing musculature and a trademark "white bikini line" as well as the large nose on the males are part of this endemic to Borneo monkey looks. Males can reach up to 50 pounds and are hte only ones with the nose--thought to attract the females
